As the weather starts to change, and as the temperature slowly starts to drop, this is a great time to get your home ready for the winter months!
Furnace
This is a great time to make sure to change your furnace filter! Additionally, if you have not had your furnace serviced/tuned up, it’s never a bad idea to do this before winter. You'll want to make sure the furnace is running efficiently and is ready for cold Michigan winters.
Gutters
It’s time to get those gutters cleaned! By doing this you will remove unnecessary weight when the snow comes, and have proper drainage when the snow melts to limit ice dam build ups. This is also a great time to make sure downspouts are still attached and pushing the water away from the house.
Hoses and Sprinklers
It’s time to unhook the hoses, and if you have underground sprinkling, make sure to have the lines blown out.
Windows and Doors
Check to make sure your windows and doors are shutting properly to keep any cold drafts out and warm air in.
Roof
With the extra rain and snow, you'll want to make sure your roof is ready. Check to make sure all areas are sealed. A few places to check: flashing around chimney, vents in the roof, & around windows/skylights.
Fireplace
If you have a fireplace, make sure to have the chimney cleaned and inspected.
